ZCJA Issues Grants to Local Organizations

At the Zonta Club of Joliet's May 2023 member meeting, the club voted to issue small grants to four local organizations. Congratulations to the following agencies and thank you for all that you do to support women in need in our community!

Bridges to a New Day provides affordable counseling services to adults, couples, children and families. They provide reduced fees for those who do not have insurance or cannot afford to pay and provides free domestic violence counseling to victims and their children. The funds will be used to offset the costs for 20 hours of domestic violence counseling to women and girls in the domestic violence program. The grant will help them provide counseling sessions to at least 5 women and girls in the program.

Habitat partners with people in the community to help them build or improve a place they can call home. They also support low-income homeowners in unsafe or inadequate conditions to repair their home.

Our grant funds will go toward the construction of a home in Elwood in memory of Kevin Walsh, an architect and WCHFH board member. This memorial build will have women across Will County join together in support of the Women Build project. It was Kevin’s dream to make the Women Build project successful. Women Build provides women with opportunities to learn construction skills and then use those skills to be part of the solution to poverty housing. Our Club volunteers will be assisting in the building as well.

Trinity Services has a Home Support Team (HST) that assists women who have been victims of domestic violence and those that have fallen on hard times to rebuild their lives. This team provides weekly case management services and life skills training. Additionally, HST provides household furnishings (furniture, kitchenware, silverware and cooking utensils, as well as food, funds for medication and the laundromat, and bus passes for transportation.) Our donation of $1000 will be used to support the HST in purchasing these items. Through HST, approximately 50-60 women and their families will have a place to call their own while they receive the support they need to become self-reliant.

Blueprint Agency's mission is to provide the necessary tools to enable women to overcome and conquer obstacles. They do this by offering counseling, life coaching, wellness programs, and resources and referrals. Our donation of $1000 will help women that have experienced trauma such as depression, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, self-image issues, and mental health issues by providing counseling services and professional certified life coaching to those who cannot afford it.

On May 23, representatives from Trinity Services and Blueprint Agency were able to receive their checks in person at the Club's Executive Board meeting.
