Zonta's Woman of Distinction: Amirrah Abou-Youssef

The Zonta Club of the Joliet Area is thrilled to announce this year's Woman of Distinction, the amazing Amirrah Abou-Youssef. Amirrah will be honored at our 2024 Annual Fundraiser, Magnificent Mardi Gras on Friday, February 9 at 5:30 pm at Jacob Henry Mansion's Victoria Ballroom.

“Our annual fundraiser helps us raise money for scholarships, our service commitments, and global involvements,” said Bonnie Winfrey, Club President. “It is also a time to unveil our 2024 Woman of Distinction, who is Amirrah Abou-Youssef. Amirrah has been helping women for over 10 years to say no to domestic violence. We applaud her for her outstanding work.”

“Empowering women and girls is what Zonta’s mission is all about,” she continued. “We are proud of Amirrah’s dedication to making our world a better place to live.”

It has been a tradition for the club to select a woman in the community who actively works to support and improve the status of women and girls and/or has a history of leadership and success in a non-traditional role as a woman. Prior honorees have been in such diverse careers as law enforcement, historic preservation, judge, the first United Airlines woman overseas pilot, community activists or leaders, medicine, ministers, governmental leaders, and business owners.  For example, one of our early recipients was the first woman pharmacist in Will County. The club actively looks at women in the community as trail-blazers; they know how to make a positive mark on the community and get things done.

Co-chairs Beth Colvin and Cathy Miller, with the help of their committee, have planned an event that will be unique and fun. Dressing in Mardi Gras style is encouraged – show us your best costume!
