At the May 2019 meeting of the Joliet Area Zonta Club, Helen Hester Ross was elected President of the Club. Helen Hester Ross has been a Zonta member since February of 2011 and was sponsored by fellow Zontian Lora Mc McGuire (a member since 1990).
As an active Zonta member, Ross has served as the chairperson of the Service Committee and as First and Second Vice-President on the Club’s Board of Directors. As the Service Chair she enabled Zontians to help with the Guardian Angel Home children’s reading program. This also included activities for their mothers.
The past five years have been devoted to co-chairing along with Zontian Kristine Schlismann the Fearless Female Z Club, which was chartered in November of 2015 by the Joliet Zonta Club in partnership with Joliet Central High School. Through this partnership, the high school girls have had many opportunities. Recently the Z Club Committee received the “Superintendent Medallion” from Superintendent, Dr. Cheryl McCarthy.
Helen thanks the past presidents and the membership for this honor to serve the Joliet Zonta Club as president for the 2019-2021 biennium.
